چکیده
An automated fluorometric microtechnic, suitable for screening purposes, has been developed for the quantitative determination of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) and 6-phosphogluconate dehydrogenase (6PGD) levels in red blood cells. The method is rapid, simple, and precise. It uses 50 p.I whole-blood (cpillary) samples and is based on the measurement of natural fluorescence emitted by the NADPH generated during the enzymatic reactions.

Erythrocyte enzyme activities in cord blood of extremely low-birth-weight infants.
To investigate the features of erythrocyte metabolism in extremely immature infants, we assayed 21 enzyme activities and glutathione level in cord erythrocytes from 28 extremely low-birth-weight infants (ELBWI; defined as birth weight <1,000 g). The results were compared with those from normal adults and non-neonatal reticulocyte-rich controls. Statistical analysis revealed that activities of s...
متن کاملAutosomal factors with correlated effects on the activities of the glucose 6-phosphate and 6-phosphogluconate dehydrogenases in Drosophila melanogaster.
Isogenic lines, in which chromosomes sampled from natural populations of C. melanogaster are substituted into a common genetic background, were used to detect and partially characterize autosomal factors that affect the activities of the two pentose phosphate pathway enzymes, glucose 6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) and 6-phosphogluconate dehydrogenase (6PGD). The chromosome 3 effects on G6PD a...
متن کاملMOLECULAR IDENTIFICATION OF THE MOST PREVALENT MUTATION OF GLUCOSE-6-PHOSPHATE DEHYDROGENASE (G6PD) GENE IN DEFICIENT PATIENTS IN GILAN PROVINCE
Glucose-6-Phosphate Dehydrogenase (G6PD) is a cytosolic enzyme which its main function is to produce NADPH in the red blood cells by controlling the step from Glucose-6-Phosphate to 6-Phospho gluconate in the pentose phosphate pathway. G6PD deficiency is the most common X-chromosome linked hereditary enzymopathy in the world, that result in reduced enzyme activity and more than 125 different mu...
متن کاملInhibition of lipid synthesis and glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase in rat skin by dehydroepiandrosterone.
Lipid synthesis from acetate-1-(14)C by rat skin was inhibited 44-56% by 2.5 x 10(-4) m dehydroepiandrosterone (DHA) in vitro with or without addition of glucose in the incubation medium. This inhibition affected all the lipid fractions examined (hydrocarbons, sterols, sterol esters, tri-, di- and monoglycerides, fatty acids, and polar lipids) and could be reversed by NADPH. DHA also inhibited ...
متن کاملTemporal Stability of Allozyme Frequencies in a Natural Population of DROSOPHILA MELANOGASTER.
Seasonal patterns of allozyme variation are examined for 12 polymorphic enzyme loci in Drosophila melanogaster. The data derive from a total of 56 samples taken from a natural population in the Summer and Fall of 1978 and 1979. Samples were obtained at approximately five-day intervals and assayed for 6-phosphogluconate dehydrogenase (6Pgd), phosphoglucomutase (Pgm) and glucose-6-phosphate dehyd...
